Narelle Devine
Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Department of Human Services
Narelle joined the Department of Human Services in May 2016. The department delivers essential welfare and health services and payments to the Australian community. Her team of 140 protect the personal and financial security of 26 million Australians, manage 280 000 authentications every day and protect the $290 billion in payments the department makes every year.
At the tender age of just 17, Narelle joined the Royal Australian Navy and studied at the Australian Defence Force Academy.
Narelle received a Bachelor of Arts (Information Systems and English) and then went on to gain two Masters degrees in Science (Information Technology) and Systems Engineering.After 23 eventful and fulfilling years in the Australian Navy, Narelle knew the time had come to try something different.
In addition to the essential cyber operations Narelle manages, she has a particular interest in workplace culture, training and recruitment of cyber specialist staff.
